What to do and see
Attractions in central Siracusa
Attractions 30min-1.5hr away from Siracusa (totally worth it ✨)
Noto : Our favourite one, never getting tired of it. It’s an extremely beautiful baroque town that was built from scratch in the 1700s after a huge earthquake. It's a UNESCO site, with great food and awesome buildings. Great places for gelato and cannoli too. For the geeky side of us, it’s one of the most complete collections of baroque architecture in Europe. 🕍
Etna Volcano : Mount Etna is Europe's largest active volcano and one of Sicily's best wine regions. Some of the best vineyards sit right on the volcano's slopes, with views of vineyards and old lava flows. So you can combine a volcano exploration with wine tasting! There are guided hikes to the craters, cable car rides, and you'll often see steam or small eruptions while visiting the wineries. 🍷🌋
Modica : It’s famous for being the home of Sicily's oldest chocolate - their dark chocolate is still made using an ancient Aztec recipe that was brought over by the Spanish. It's also part of the UNESCO baroque sites of Val di Noto.🍫
Beaches
This is a map with all the beaches.
Some of them (like Fontane Bianche , Arenella) are fully equipped, some of them (like Punta della Molla) are a natural reserve with no facilities, for a quicker swim. Bear in mind, the organised beaches in the area have the typical Mediterranean beauty, but they are not that great….like the GREEK ones!!! So we’d advise you to have a quick look on the pics of google maps before you go. We’d recommend Fontante Bianche if you prefer to relax on sunbeds and want to combine it with a pasta alle vongole by the beach at Sayonara. Punta della Molla is our favourite, as it’s a natural reserve, just wear comfortable shoes to access it! Punta Castelluccio is also a great option as it has easy access, is close to the city and is a small cutie!
